Despite Tuesday’s fatal bomb attack in the Kissufim area of the Gaza border, Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday ordered the Kerem Shalom, Erez and Karnei Crossings opened to permit some 200 trucks carrying aid to enter Hamas-controlled Gaza.
In another humanitarian matter, the United Kibbutz Movement announced 50 Gazan children ages 8-15, who lost parents as a result of Operation Cast Lead, are being permitted into Israel. They are being hosted in a number of communities including Kibbutz Sasa, Kafr Kassam and Haifa, to show them “Israelis care”. In Haifa, local students will meet with the Gazan youths.
A senior UKM official stated “On the one hand, we are the first to send our sons to battle when called to do so but with the other hand; we show the enemy’s children love and work to paint another picture.”
A spokesperson explained doing so may prevent the next generation of Gazan children from growing up to be terrorists. He added “they will remember this love for many years”.
