Nazareth Illit Mayor Ramiz Jaraisy explained the news of the arrest of nine youths from the municipality in connection to arson attacks against vehicles owned by Arabs is not at all surprising to him. He attributes the actions of the youths to the growing “anti-Arab climate in the city and elsewhere”.
Jaraisy places the blame on the statements made by Yisrael Beitenu Party officials, explaining “when the concept of transfer becomes legitimate in the eyes of the Israeli public and the legitimacy of the Israeli Arab community is questioned, such acts are to be expected”. The mayor also accuses “right-wingers” of trying to harm Hadash political activists in the city.
The mayor stated that he still remains hopeful however that recent events only represent a small fringe element and not a growing trend.
In response to the report, Yisrael Beitenu officials stated the party remains opposed to all acts of violence against innocent people.

“Racial tensions”
Palestinians and Jews (excluding recent converts) are the same race. Indeed, on a DNA level we are more like the Palestinians, and they more like us, than anyone else.
“Ethnic” or “Religious” tensions maybe, but not racial.
