The Arab al-Jazeera network reports that Gazans wounded in Operation Cast Lead who were taken for treatment to Egypt were interrogated by Egyptian security forces who sought to learn more regarding Hamas’ weapons smuggling operation.
According to the report, in some case, patients were tied to beds and physically struck, while others were threatened with cessation of medical care and/or expulsion from the hospital. The report states the Egyptian agents took a hard-line approach, seemingly interested in obtaining information pertaining to Hamas weapons smuggling across the border.
Some of the Gazans were sent home and told to “spread the word” that the smuggling days are over, that Egypt would be maintaining a zero-tolerance policy at the border crossing between Gaza and Sinai.
