Despite the global economic crisis the unemployment rate in Israel remained at 5.9% during the months of October and November 2008, representing 180,000 people out of work.

According to a Central Bureau of Statistics report, based on predictions from Bituach Leumi, unemployment by the end of 2009 is expected to climb to 9%.
