Chava Plai has given birth to a baby at her time when her husband, an IDF company commander, is on the other side of the border fighting.
Chava and Yair are residents of Keshet in the Golan Heights. During the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Chava gave birth to a daughter and now, during the Gaza War, another girl was born to the young couple, weighing in at 3kg (6.5lbs), a sister to Lior (6.5), Sohar (4.5) and Arad (2.5).
Captain Plai, 29, is a commander in the elite Egoz reconnaissance unit in the Golani Brigade. When he was called to Gaza Chava was nearing the end of her pregnancy and on Thursday, in Poriah Hospital in Tiveria, their daughter came into the world. Military officials did get the message to Yair in the field.
Chava immediately telephoned the front command room in southern Israel and the mazel tov was moved along to the command post inside Gaza. From there, a text message was sent to the young commander.
During the last war, Yair was able to make it, to be with Chava for the birth. Chava however is not complaining, stating “I am pleased he is able to do all he can for Eretz Yisrael.”
Captain Yair has been serving for nine years in the IDF and during the past year, he signed another contract for an additional six years. He is considered to be an exceptional officer and without releasing details, military officials explain he will be receiving a citation from Southern District Commander Major-General Yair Galant for his performance in the Gaza War.
Chava states that their new daughter will not be named until abba returns home for a break and he can make a proper mishabeirach in shul. Chava also had words of praise for the delivery staff in Poriah Hospital, explaining the couple’s children were all born there.
