Briefing the cabinet on Sunday, ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yuval Diskin warned that in all likelihood, Hamas will resume weapons smuggling into Gaza in the coming months, despite Israel successfully destroying much of the underground tunnel network.
Diskin stated the terrorist regime will rebuild the complex underground tunnel network and resume smuggling weapons and ammunition as it has done in the past.
Regarding Hamas leaders, they are in a difficult situation explained the senior intelligence official, who stated their estimates regarding an Israeli response were incorrect, not expecting a full-blown military operation ahead of general elections in Israel, especially one of the scope of Operation Cast Lead. He added that despite the pressure on Israel from the international community, Gazans are blaming the Hamas leadership for bringing the vast destruction upon them.
