Who is Telling the Truth?

olmert1.jpgSome are calling it a “diplomatic row” between the Prime Minister’s Office and the US State Department, as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert insists he urged the United States to veto the UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her office insists this is not the case at all.

The White House is denying reports that pressure from Jerusalem and a phone call to President Bush resulted in Secretary Rice abstaining in the vote on the UN resolution.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe called reports “inaccurate”.

According to the prime minister, in statements he made during a visit to Ashkelon, he phoned the president and was told that he was delivering an address in Philadelphia, to which he responded “I need to speak with him now”. Olmert explains the president left the podium to speak with him.

  1. Olmert’s an idiot either way. If the story is true, what benefit does it give to US-Israeli relations, to me it seems to only hurt it? Same if its false.

Therefore stating it, means you’re an idiot.

  2. Olmert must be cracking under the pressure!

How can anyone in the diplomatic world be so stupid!???

The U.S. just delayed a shipment of arms. Is this the real reason?

  3. #1, I agree. Olmert came off looking very arrogant, and a bufoon in world media. (Wow, look at me, I got the US President to have his speech disturbed. Wow, I got him to change Condi’s mind.) Let him keep his mouth shut. Perhaps if he wanted to put it in his biography after he leaves office. But now? “Bsha’as Ma’aseh”? So foolish.
