5 IDF soldiers were killed and 33 injured in the Gaza operation on Monday night.
Hamas terrorists on Tuesday fired a rocket into Gadera, about 36km (21.5 miles) from northern Gaza. The attack was the furthest from the Gaza border to date. Intelligence officials believe Hamas may be able to strike as far as 70km (42 miles) into Israel.
Three Israelis, including a 3-month-old infant were injured in rocket attacks. 10 were treated for hysteria.
Firing on a UN school in Gaza used by terrorists to launch mortar shell attacks, IDF tank fire killed 40 in the school. US President-elect Barak Obama commented on the IDF operation for the first time.
IDF officials report 8 tunnels, 16 weapons storage facilities and 5 rocket launching sites were destroyed. A senior Hamas commander was eliminated. The death toll is Gaza is reported to be 604 and 3,000 injured.
