According to a report in the Syrian state-run al-Watan news, UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) and Lebanese army forces have deployed troop reinforcements along Lebanon’s southern border as Israel launched Operation Cast Lead.
Border patrols are being carried out in armored vehicles with the area UNIFIL commander telling the media he hopes to prevent a “dramatic response” in the area to Israel’s military operation.
Intelligence reports in Israel warn of a possible Hizbullah strike, prompting the IDF to send some of the tens of thousands of reservists called up this week directly to Israel’s northern border. In addition, appropriate agencies are working to ensure northern area shelters are ready for use and northern hospitals are also running checks and reevaluating emergency operating protocol.
