Foreign Journalists Prevented from Entering Gaza

ij.jpgDespite a High Court ruling permitting eight foreign journalists into Gaza, the journalists were prohibited from crossing into the Hamas-controlled area on Monday by Israeli security officials. The officials explained that current security realities do not permit the move.

High Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein last week ruled that eight members of the foreign press corps stationed in Israel may enter Gaza despite Israeli objections. The court’s ruling was in response to a petition filed by the Foreign Journalists Association. The court ruled that if and when crossings are opened to permit humanitarian aid, the journalists would be permitted to enter. Despite the opening of a crossing on Monday, defense officials stated the situation does not permit their entry.

Israel continues working to maintain media control on Gaza, releasing only a limited number of select photos and film footage, and cracking down on compliance with the military censor and the military keeps the operation under tight wraps.

Nevertheless, some of the international media stars have already arrived in Israel as the Gaza fighting continues. This includes Christiana Amanpour (CNN), Jeremy Brown (BBC) and Bob Simons (CBS).

  1. Thr americans would have been a lot more successful in iraq had they done the same thing. Perhaps israel learned their lessons from the iraq war.there is no reason why a soldier should have to worry about a camera when they feel their in danger? Bravo IDF!
