Monday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


*12:34: Sirens sounding in Ashkelon indicating incoming rockets.

*12:37: The Rahat man killed in the Monday morning rocket attack has been identified as Handi al-Mahdi, 27.

*12:48: Hysteria victim following a rocket falling near Netivot’s stadium.

*12:51During his address in the special Knesset session addressing the Gaza operation, opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu called on PM Olmert to dismiss Science, Culture & Sport Minister Raleb Majadele, who boycotted Sunday’s cabinet meeting in protest over the IDF operation.

*13:03: In light of the security situation in Ashkelon, the city’s magistrate’s court has canceled all hearings. Urgent matters will be transferred to the magistrate’s court in Ashdod and Kiryat Gat.

*13:05: Arab violence was reported in a number of areas on Monday morning including near Har Adar, Kalandia and Kever Rachel.

*13:06: PA (Palestinian Authority) chief negotiator Ahmed Quriea (Abu Ala) on Monday denied the accuracy of an al-Jazeera report that talks have been suspended between the PA and Israel.

*13:10: Barzilai Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Ron Lobel reports a total of 25 people treated on Monday morning. Two victims are listed in moderate condition and the remainder light and light-to-moderate. Most will be released in the coming hours.

*13:21: Firebomb attacks near Kalandia. No injuries.

*13:38: Sirens sounding in Ashkelon.

*13:42: Rockets land in Sderot & Ashkelon. No injuries reported.

*13:43: Rocket falls in S’dot Dov area. No injuries reported.

*14:00: 37 rockets and mortar shells fired at Israel since Monday morning.

*14:13: 6 temporary fire stations will be opened in rocket-stricken areas – 2 in Ashkelon,  2 in Ashdod, 1 in Yavne and 1 in Beersheva.

*15:14: Sirens sounding in Sderot.

*15:38: Rockets heading to southern Israel. No injuries.

*15:58: PA reporting the IAF eliminated the head of the Islamic Jihad military wing.

*16:24: Rockets fired from Gaza landed in an open area in the W. Negev.
