Former Gaza Commander & Deputy DM Vilnai Head South

Officials in IDF Southern Command on Sunday received assistance from a surprise source, former Gaza Division Commander Brig.-Gen. Moshe Tamir. He arrived in the command pit as it is called to assist in the ongoing operation.

Tamir completed his assignment in Gaza about two months ago but his promotion and next assignment are delayed after he permitted his son to drive an IDF ATV and failed to report the youth damaged it in an accident. His son is unlicensed and the military prosecutor is filing charges against the senior officer as a result of the incident and his attempt to cover it up.

Tamir, together with IDF Southern Commander Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant and air force commander Major-General Eliezer Shkedy are the architects of Operation Cast Lead.

Southern area residents also received a boost when they heard Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai arrived in a Sderot apartment, where he is residing to be close to the reality of what is taking place. He spent the night as well, officials report.

During the evening hours, he toured some of the rocket-stricken municipalities.
