Tanks Preparing for Entry into Gaza

idftank.jpgThe death toll among terrorists in Gaza is reportedly about 230 as the first phase of the IAF strike against some 100 Hamas targets is well underway. That said, tanks and infantry forces are preparing for the next stage of what may be a major assault, as Israel is clearly moving ahead to “change realities” in Gaza as senior government ministers explained on Shabbos.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced on Shabbos after the start of the aerial assault against Gaza-based terror that the operation will take time and it will be difficult. He also stated that Israel will do whatever it takes to bring a halt to rocket fire. This includes a possible infantry operation. Such a move demands a large number of tanks to escort forces into northern Gaza, which would also be done with aerial support. No one has stated with certainty that such an event will occur, but preparations are well underway in case the move is deemed necessary by the IDF. Troops are prepared and units are being shifted to bring the proper elite units to the Gaza border and tanks are heading south to Gaza preparing for the order to enter.

In an interview with Fox News, Barak rhetorically questioned the American people, explaining that calling on Israel to enter into a ceasefire with Hamas now would be tantamount to calling on the Americans to enter a ceasefire with al-Qaeda.

  4. sammyjoe, I completely agree with you. But, the mainstream media is already having a field day with this. They are already characterizing the Arabs as the poor, old Palestinians and bemoaning civilian casualties. Let’s hope that Olmert doesn’t watch CNN.
