The timing is more than ironic, perhaps downright painful for Sderot residents, but the “Bayit Shel Sderot” is being closed due to a lack of funds, an inability to raise less than NIS 20,000 required to keep the good-will operation functional.
The good-will facility served as a social hall and coffee club for residents of the rocket-struck city, many in dire financial straights due to the collapse of their businesses.
Daniel Neharai, the founder and operator of the Bayit Shel Sderot lamented the painful reality, explaining the global economic crisis has brought a halt to donations and unfortunately, government officials do not seem interested in assisting towards keeping the program operational.
