Opposition leader and premiership hopeful Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu was in Sderot on Sunday, visiting the homes of rocket attack victims, seeing the significant damage first hand. The greeting he received may not have been exactly what he expected, as angry and scared residents demanded an explanation as to why they continue to endure round-the-clock attacks while politicians discuss the situation.
“Southern area residents are paying a heavy price for the serious error of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Kadima ministers” stated Netanyahu, who during photo ops with children promised they will soon not be required to endure rocket attacks.
A growing number of cabinet ministers on Sunday called for a military response, with Kadima number two, Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz leading the list of critics of the current administration’s policies. One should be reminded that Mofaz served as defense minister under then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, during the 2005 expulsion of Jews from Gaza, and Mofaz along with his cabinet colleagues did not heed the warnings, but continued to reassure residents of Gush Katif that the yishuvim would not become Hamas terror bases as is the case today.
