About 150 “security prisoners” took part in riots in Ofer Prison along Highway 443 not far from Modi’in on Shabbos. During the mayhem, a number of terrorists tried to flee but they were apprehended.
Prisoners attacked guards, burned mattresses and tents, threw items at prison employees and did their utmost to compel others to join in the rioting. Order was restored after a number of hours, but not before 6 prisoners and 10 guards were injured.
Nearby Arab villages became aware of what was taking place, prompting widespread rock-throwing attacks at cars on 443. The road, the Jerusalem-Modi’in Highway, was closed for a number hours until order was restored in the prison.
