The Nachal Chareidi battalion of the Nachal (Kfir) Brigade will for the first time move to the Jenin district, where they will undertake responsibility for the area. To date, Nachal Chareidi soldiers were operating almost exclusively in the Jordan Valley district but after years of proving their abilities as infantry soldiers, they are now being moved to their new assignment which is viewed as a significantly more difficult area than the Jordan Valley.
Nachal Chareidi’s official name is Netzach Yehuda, and it is the result of a pilot project undertaken a number of years ago, enlisting chareidi youths willing to serve as combat officers in a frum framework designed by IDF officials and rabbonim. By all accounts, the soldiers have proven themselves and to date, there are far more applicants to the unit than it is capable of accepting.
To date, over 2,500 people have been accepted into Nachal Chareidi and as a result, hundreds will be part of the unit’s reserve duty personnel, permitting them to serve together during annual reserve duty as well. Brigadier-General Yehuda Duvdevani, one of the officers responsible for the founding of Nachal Chareidi, proudly states the move to Jenin is further testimony to the success of the unit.
