Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has succeeded in bringing Shas on board, further expanding his Jerusalem coalition after including United Torah Judaism last week.

A Shas member will receive the unpaid title of assistant mayor, and the party’s four councilmen will receive portfolios in the city administration. The mayor is quite pleased, having reached an unprecedented city council including 30 members, bringing the various parties on board in the hope of working together towards implementing his many planned changes.

The mayor expressed his sincere hope that the large wall-to-wall coalition will indeed work to save Jerusalem and not become bogged down with in-fighting issues.
