Supreme Court Delays Prisoner Release [UPDATED IN ARTICLE]

court hammer2.jpgSupreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein in response to a petition filed by the Gush Etzion Regional Council has halted Monday’s planned release of 230 prisoners by Israel, a good-will gesture to the PA (Palestinian Authority) for the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice.

The original petition resulted in the court instructing the state to respond within 21 days but following another petition to the court, the decision was made to halt the process of the release pending the state’s response.

The prisoner release is set for 9:30am Monday, and the terrorists and security prisoners being released have already undergone medical exams and have been seen by representatives of the International Red Cross. Most of the prisoners are being held at Ofer Detention Center near Ramallah while some are being held in Shikma Prison near Ashkelon, to be returned to Gaza.

Rubinstein ruled the release will not take place prior to the court ruling on the petition which challenges the process by which the prisoners slated for release are selected.

8:29AM IL: The High Court of Justice a short time ago removed the temporary order delaying the planned release of 230 terrorists and security prisoners, permitting the government to move ahead with the release on schedule.

  1. Another goodwill gesture? This is beyond absurd. Someone must invent a new word that makes absurd seem sane. Well, at least Israel must have a lot of thank you notes on the wall for their goodwill gestures.

  2. i can’t understand how israel can do such a thing to release so many prisoners to kill more peaple?!??!!? why are they doing this? at least let the prisoners be dead on return.

  3. Not to make this any more sane, but these aren’t prisoners suspected of terrorism. Doesn’t change much, but thought the oilam should know.
