Petition to Supreme Court to Re-Arrest Kiryat Arba Resident

The state on Sunday will appear before the High Court of Justice seeking to reverse a overrule a lower court decision ordering the house arrest release of Kiryat Arba resident Ze’ev Brauda, who is facing aggravated assault charges for firing his weapon during the violence on the day residents of Bet HaShalom were expelled from their home.

As YWN reported last week, Brauda explained he fired in self-defense to extricate himself from the angry Arab mob, further stating he was not involved in the violence but came to the area to make certain his son was not involved in the violence of the day. As a result, he was compelled to fire his weapon and subsequently injured two Arabs.

The court had harsh words for police and the state, questioning why Brauda was the only one arrested when so many of the Arabs were involved in the violence as well. The court rejected a police request that the suspect be held without bail.

The state however appears tenacious in its position, seeking to overturn the district court ruling and have Brauda held without bail.
