The mini-cabinet, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak convened on Wednesday to discuss the escalation in rocket attacks into southern Israel.

The prime minister and foreign minister are in favor of a military response but the defense minister and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi remain opposed at this time. The question also remains what will be the government’s policy after the IDF does eventually operates in Gaza to halt the attacks.
