Chevron Police Chief Receives Death Threat

A southern Tel Aviv resident is in custody after he threatened to kill the Chevron police commander following the expulsion in Bet HaShalom.

On Friday, Eliyahu Harush telephoned Chevron police and stated he and others with guns will be coming to the area to murder Chevron Police Chief Avishai Peled, who was the commander in charge of the Bet Shalom expulsion.

Police did not take chances and immediately launched an investigation, tracking the call to a southern Tel Aviv phone booth. Chevron detectives were dispatched to the public phone, and they detected a store next to the phone booth has security cameras, which did manage to capture the suspect on film. A deputy commander with vast experience fighting southern Tel Aviv street crime recognized the suspect and police were sent to his home to make the arrest.

Harush admitted to making the phone call and was remanded to house arrest. He expressed remorse for his actions, explaining he was only joking and never intended to harm anyone.
