Shin Bet: No Flights to Zanzibar, Kenya & Tanzania

elal1.jpgConcerned over a possible terror attack against an Israeli plane, the ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) has prohibited Sandor Airline from continuing commercial flights to Zanzibar, Kenya and Tanzania. Restrictions have also been placed on the airline’s flights to Turkey due to mounting threats.

Perhaps somewhat ironic, flights are permitted to Nigeria, but this may not be actualized since the local government will not permit Israeli security personal in the country.

Sandor, an affiliate of El Al, is seeking to expand services but company director Betzalel Kravet states that he understands the security concerns and the decision to prohibit the flights, but nonetheless, explains this reality severely limits the airline’s growth potential.

This does not mark the first time that such a step has been taken. In 2002, Arkia flights to Kenya were halted due to security considerations.

  1. Nebuch – If the FAA fails an airport it means that the facility either has been ignoring substantial safety risks for a long time, or has been unable to remedy them.
