PA (Palestinian Authority) forces are expected to assume responsibility for Bet Lechem by the end of the Gregorian year, but the IDF will maintain its presence at Kever Rachel.

Defense Ministry officials have been holding talks with PA security officials to complete final plans for the deployment of PA forces in the city. According to Miriam Adani of the Kever Rachel Preservation organization, the security responsibility for the holy site will remain exclusively in Israeli hands.

Security officials are pleased with the deployment of PA forces in Chevron, Shechem and Jenin, prompting the decision to permit them to operate in Bet Lechem as well.
