Outgoing US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice perhaps cannot miss an opportunity to pressure or attack Israel. Her latest statement was made to journalists accompanying her on her airplane, when she blamed Israel’s internal political turmoil for the inability to reach an agreement with the PA (Palestinian Authority) by year’s end as President Bush had hoped.
Interestingly, she does not see any political turmoil in the divided PA, with Hamas running affairs in Gaza and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) trying to hang on in Yehuda and Shomron. His term ends in January, at which time Hamas insists he must hold elections or they will no longer recognize his authority.
Rice tried her best to pressure Israel into giving away the country, and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert appeared quite willing to accommodate her but it appears HaKadosh Baruch Hu had other plans.
