The daily Haaretz on Friday has chosen to run a banner headline reporting Defense Minister Ehud Barak has approved construction projects in yishuvim in contradiction to government policy and contrary to agreements and understandings with the US and PA.
According to the report, Barak has approved continued construction in contradiction to the Roadmap Plan, and in communities east of the security fence, in areas that will not remain under Israeli sovereignty according to separation plans.
According to America’s 2003 Roadmap Plan, Israel is to refrain from any new construction in Yehuda and Shomron. America also opposes construction in “East Jerusalem”, which refers to all areas liberated in the 1967 Six Day War, including Jerusalem neighborhoods such as Har Choma and the city of Maale Adumim.
According to the report, Barak has approved at least 400 building units, which also includes commercial structures. 32 units and a commercial center are planned for Betar Illit; 48 housing units and 19 plots are being prepared in Ariel; and 40 housing units are planned for Efrat. Another 60 units are planned for Sansena, located a number of kilometers from its parent community, Eshkolot, in the Southern Chevron Hills.
The notification of planned construction in the communities of Ariel, Kiryat Sefer, Maale Adumim, Mevo Choron, Oranit, Efrat, Givat Ze’ev, Bet El, N’vei Daniel, Elon Shvut, Har Hadar, Kochav Yaakov and Talmon, with the last two located east of the planned separation barrier. It is also pointed out that the ordered publication of the plan indicates the plans are in the early stages of building.
Also mentioned is a planned project in Matityahu-East [in Kiryat Sefer, the controversial area which Arabs claim is sitting on land of the village Na’alin], as well as in Elkana, Oranit and Bet Aryeh. This refers to planned public structures, not structures to serve as dwellings.
The report also mentions a Mekorot Company project in Kiryat Arba, east of the planned fence, and a cemetery in Maale Adumim.
The report states that as of the time the article was published there has not been a response from the defense minister.

It is really a sad statement about the future of the State of Israel when it is a monumental decision to allow Jews to expand their neighborhoods
and continue the path of Yishuv Ha’Aretz.
One could argue that even the Arabs should be in favor of it. After all, a few more governments like Sharon and Olmert and it will all be theirs anyway.
Bh that Barak sees that our only hope is to constantly expand Yishuv Eretz Yisroel. Hashem Yazor.
A politic move only, since BIBI is looking good once again to the Israeli, Barak has to show I also ‘love settlers and settlements’.
