A new NGO (non-governmental organization) is working to promote the agenda of the left-wing Meretz Party, backed by some prominent names, including former Labor MK and Knesset speaker Avraham Burg. Also supporting the pro-Meretz effort is noted author Amos Oz.

Other notables calling on voters to support Meretz are Uzi Baram (a former senior Labor minister), Shlomo Ben-Ami (a former senior Labor minister), and Tzali Reshef.

When Baram was asked on Monday morning by Israel Radio to explain, he stated he does not see himself supporting the current Meretz makeup but he favors a new left-wing entity that includes Meretz, but has a different makeup, an entity capable of attracting the right people.
