Rav Yaakov Shapira Shlita, the rosh yeshiva of Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, has come out in support of Rav Meir Porush in the Jerusalem mayoral race.

The rosh yeshiva stated he is following the path of his late father, Rav Avraham Kahane Shapira ZT”L, who stated one must vote for a torah observant Jew in such matters over those who are not Shomer Shabbos, Torah and Mitzvos.

Once again, sadly, but perhaps not unexpectedly, National Religious Party chairman MK Zevulun Orlev on Monday announced his support for a non-frum candidate, Nir Barkat. Time and time again, the dati leumi representatives in Knesset seem to turn their backs on their own rabbanim, a move some attribute to the political party’s continued decline in its popularity, as is manifest by its drop in Knesset mandates.
