Israel: Dekel’s Book May Compromise Israel’s Interests

Senior security officials have been meeting to decide if a book by Ofir Dekel compromises state security interests. Dekel is responsible for representing the state in negotiations towards obtaining the release of imprisoned IDF soldiers.

Along with journalist Shimon Shefer, the book addresses the process and negotiations towards the recent prisoner exchange deal which resulted in Hizbullah’s handover of the bodies of soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.

Officials reveal the revelation of some of the negotiating methods used with Hizbullah may compromise ongoing efforts towards the release of Gilad Shalit. According to Channel 1 state-run TV news military correspondent Amir Bar-Shalom, the matter is being addressed by officials in the Prime Minister’s Office. They will decide if the book represents a violation of Dekel’s confidentiality agreement.

According to associates of Dekel involved in the soon-to-be-released book complies with the guidelines of the IDF censor, the ministerial committee dealing with prisoner release matters and the Prime Minister’s Office.
