The Jerusalem District Court on Sunday ruled in favor of Jerusalem mayoral candidate Arkadi Gaydamak, who called on the court to permit him to run under his known name in this week’s municipal election.
The Central Election Committee told Gaydamak that the law only permits using his official name on the election ballots, the name appearing on his identity card, Aryeh Bar-Lev.
The court ruled in favor of his request, stating the ballot may also say the name used by the candidate day-to-day, the name known to many Israelis as a result of his many high media profile endeavors.
