Yigal Amir, who is serving a life sentence for the 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, ‘gave’ an interview to Channel 10. He explained he had opportunity to murder Rabin prior to the November 4th assassination, adding experts’ statements along with others influenced him, including Ariel Sharon.
He went on to explain that he attended a wedding at which Rabin was a guest, who was only accompanied by one bodyguard, explaining it would have been easy to assassinate him there. He did have a gun and he remembers thinking to himself how easy it would be to kill him at the wedding.
“The military experts” influenced his decision, including Rechavam Ze’evi, Ariel Sharon and Raful Eitan.
The interview was unauthorized according to Israel Prison Service officials, adding Amir will be punished. This will include cutting telephone privileges and family visits. He is also being transferred to a protective custody unit in Eshel Prison.
According to Amir’s wife, Dr. Larissa Trimbobler, the correspondent secretly recorded the conversation and deceived Yigal, since he gave his words that the conversation would not be aired.
