An Arab who succeeded in infiltrating into Israel via an Egypt is in custody, admitting to interrogators that he planned to abduct IDF soldiers via a Gaza tunnel.
ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) officials report that Jamal Abu Dueba, 21, is in custody, adding he planned to anesthetize soldiers and smuggle them into Hamas-controlled Gaza via a weapons smuggling tunnel, using a jeep to transport them from the abduction point.
The prisoner told ISA agents he is funded and was trained by Hamas. He was instructed to stage a fake drug deal along the Gaza border to bring soldiers closer to enable carrying out his devious plot.
Authorities report he did have a quantity of tranquilizers in pill form on his person when he was apprehended; drugs that he admitted were planned for use against IDF soldiers. It is unclear just how he planned to use the pills against soldiers.
Abu Dueba was apprehended in September and he was indicted today, Sunday. He faces charges of attempting to kidnap soldiers to use them in talks to compel Israel to release terrorists.
Chief of military intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin told ministers at the Sunday morning weekly cabinet meeting that Hamas is trying to carry out “quality terror attacks,” ceasefire notwithstanding if the terror organization believes the outcome of such attacks will improve its position in negotiations with Israel more than the current ceasefire situation.
