Police on Monday night arrested six Jewish teens suspected of attempting to set fire to a number of Arab homes in the Hatikvah neighborhood of the city. Police fear the attacks may be an extension of the Yom Kippur race riots in Akko. Ironically, only one home was actually set ablaze on Monday night, belonging to a Jew, not an Arab.
The suspects include a number of minors, who deny any connection to the alleged attacks, insisting that on Monday night, there were not in the Hatikvah area.
Police on the other hand insist they have proof linking all the suspects to what they are calling “well planned attacks, including prepared statements to be made in the event they are arrested”. Police are attributing the attacks to right-wing nationalistic motives, hoping to stop any spread of additional hate crimes.
