Education Ministry Continues to Hang Chareidi Schools Out to Dry

clasroom.jpgAs of erev Yom Kippur, some 3,000 chareidi kindergartens and schools were still waiting for last month’s allocation from the Ministry of Education, which under the current minister, Prof. Yuli Tami, has shown its vehement disapproval of the chareidi education system and way of life. Tamir’s has never hidden her pro-secular views and admiration for the Reform Movement and ‘alternative streams of Yiddishkeit’.

As was reported HERE by YWN in the past, the ministry has demanded permits and other stringencies from chareidi schools, apparently well-aware they will not be able to comply, towards putting a financial squeeze on the schools. It should be pointed out that an investigation reveals that public schools and national-religious (dati-leumi) public schools are not being compelled to produce the same permits.

The chareidi administrators are blaming Dorit Morag, the legal counsel of the ministry for the current deadlock, the blocking of funds until the chareidi school administrators produce the building permits or alternatively, sign an affidavit committing that by the end of the current Gregorian year if they do not have the permits, they will pay the ministry back, well-aware the schools do not have the ability to do so.

Attorney Ariel Deri, a senior official on the staff of Minister Meshulam Nahari, has entered the picture and is working to release funds for chareidi institutions. Apparently, Deri is aware of a loophole in the law that will work to the benefit of the chareidi school system.

  1. so what do you expect – from their perspective, Torah is the enemy (oh, you bought that line about Medinat Yisrael being a Jewish state???? – would you like to buy some shares in AIG or Lehman Brothers from me, I won’t charge a dime over what they cost a year ago???).
