Israel: Increased Security on Yom Kippur

mishtara.jpgPolice around the country will remain on heightened alert status on Yom Kippur as is the usual protocol. Defense Minister Ehud Barak at midnight clamped a closure on PA (Palestinian Authority) residents of Yehuda and Shomron, prohibiting them from entering into pre-1967 Green Line Israel.

Security officials on Friday morning report there are eleven credible specific terror warnings of planned attacks. This is in addition to dozens of “general” terror alerts.

Increased security will be focused on bus stations, market places, in cemeteries during the morning hours on Wednesday where many memorial ceremonies are taking place, and along the Green Line between “Israel proper” and PA areas.

On Yom Kippur, additional patrols will be placed on shuls, public institutions, embassies and consulates.

The Jewish Agency for Israel announced this week it was increasing security on all its facilities worldwide ahead of Yom Kippur. The Israel Foreign Ministry has ordered all its embassies and consulates to be on heightened alert as well.

Public buses and trains will begin tapering off service during the early afternoon hours, coming to a halt at about 3:00PM, to resume on motzei Yom Kippur.
