Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, will move to a heightened operational level on Wednesday afternoon, erev Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is generally a busy day for Israel’s EMS, responding to many calls for people felling ill due to the fast, many calls for women in labor, and many calls in Tel Aviv, where the holiest day of the year for many has become a day of bicycle riding, the result of the very low traffic volume.
MDA officials are calling on the public to please refrain from what has become an abhorrent minhag, throwing rocks at ambulances responding to and from emergency calls, especially in Yerushalayim.
MDA officials add that on an average Yom Kippur, they respond to 1,500 calls.

May the only MDA calls be for women in labor!
