SECURITY/DEFENSE:

*Today, Tuesday, is day 112 of the virtual Gaza ceasefire.

*Today is Gilad Shalit’s 835th day in Hamas captivity.

*The American Embassy in Lebanon has moved to heightened alert following warnings of a planned attack following the end of Ramadan. American citizens in Lebanon have been warned as well.

*IDF soldiers involved in counter-terror operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron arrested nine suspects on Monday night.

*An elite border police force working with Shin Bet agents on Monday night apprehended Rafa Ahmed Hassan al-Awna in Ramallah. He is wanted for involvement in a terror attack.

POLITICS, DOMESTIC & MORE:

*Channel 10 TV will be broadcasting from Sderot during Chol Hamoed Sukkos, October 15-17, in a showing of solidarity with residents. Station officials report all shows during the two-day period will be broadcast from Sderot.

*70% of Jews in Israel announce they plan to fast on Yom Kippur.

*Hundreds of people took part in the Monday night event to ask forgiveness from Gilad Shalit. It was held in Rabin Square, in the presence of Noam Shalit, the captive soldier’s father, as Shlomo Goldwasser, whose son was killed in the cross-border abduction that launched the Second Lebanon War.
