PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) telephoned Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday to wish him a Shana Tova. The prime minister extended his good wishes to the PA leader on the Muslim holiday of Id el-Fitr.
According to Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reports this week, the two leaders are very close to an agreement which entails major land and territorial compromises by Israel, including Yerushalayim.
The reports stated that the PA leader rejected Olmert’s generous offers because the peace agreement did not address the right-of-return for so-called Palestinian refugees and neglected to demarcate final borders regarding Yerushalayim, which the PA views as the future capital of a Palestinian state.
