Officials in the Aryeh Deri camp announced on Wednesday Deri will accept the ruling of the Jerusalem District Court regarding his eligibility to announce his candidacy in the Jerusalem mayoral race. They explain Deri does not plan to appeal a negative ruling to the Supreme Court.
Deri has also indicated that if he is disqualified from the race, he will support the chareidi candidate with the best chance of being elected.
Deri rejected accusations that his inclusion in the race may harm the other chareidi candidate, Meir Porush. He stated that he is the only chareidi candidate guaranteed to win, stating if there is another candidate who is his equal or better, he will bow out of the race. He added that he is willing to appear before any beis din to render a decision regarding his running against Porush and if told to bow out of the race, he will comply.
In the meantime, many Yesha notables are coming out publicly in support of Meir Porush and his mayoral campaign, citing Porush’s days in the Housing Ministry, during which he was a major proponent of expanded construction in communities throughout Yehuda and Shomron. Some of the supporters include Bentzi Lieberman, Tzvi Katzover, Uri Ariel, Daniela Weiss, and Sammy Bar-Lev.

Deri should bow out either way he is a convicted criminal and should not be allowed to lead the Holy City and its diverse community. This has nothing to do with religion or Ha-Lacha and I am sure many of you would disagree and I respect that.
arye deri is not a criminal just a modern day blood lible victim (sadly perpatrated by his own people) so i dont seee anything wrong with him being mayor of yerushalayim on the contrary i think he would do a wonderfull job
I agree with smart2! Infact I know for a fact that he was the victim of a libel!
i too agree with “smart2,” however, i’m intrigued to know how “A Maven” “knows for a fact that he was the victim of a libel.” There is always two sides to a story, and it is quite obvious that Deri has been messed over. But to say you know for a fact is pretty bold, and we would all love to know this “fact.”
