An El Al Boeing 767 jumbo jet traveling from France to Tel Aviv on Wednesday became the target of a bomb threat. As a result, fighter jets were scrambled to escort the jumbo jet, FLT 324, as it flew through France, Italy and Greece, and eventually, Israel. NATO fighter planes also escorted the El Al flight at some point while traveling through Europe. The terror alert was for that specific flight and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) officials were not taking any chances.
The plane landed in Ben-Gurion International Airport at about 7:30PM Wednesday without incident. An inspection of the craft followed the uneventful landing.
Officials explained the fighter plane escort is to make certain the plane does not attempt to take a different course than the one charted by traffic controllers in the event terrorists were planning something.
El Al officials praised the cooperation of the different countries which assisted in security efforts during the ordeal.

How can fighter jets save a plane from a bomb inside the plane?

the reason thaat they scrambeled the jets may be that the bomb scare would be just a distraction for a larger plot so just to be on the safe side they scramble the jets
which means that if it did,a plane load of passengers would of been shot out of the sky

Everyone else – think about it – they scramble the jets to make sure the terrorists don’t crash the plane into a building or a heavily populated area, not to prevent the bomb from going off. Use your brains. So yes, as Twerski says, to save hundreds or thousands of other lives, the plane would HAVE been shot out of the sky.
# 1 and #2 – have you heard of 9/11? Remember? The terrorists used planes as missles to project them into populated buildings. The jets were scrambled to prevent a repeat, God forbid.
but it was clearly not taken over by terrorists
it was a bomb scare-maybe it should have landed in an isolated airport designated for such a purpose, and take the passengers off safely
#8 has a good point. Why didn’t the plane land somewhere and get the passengers off? If there had been a bomb, no amount of planes flying with it could have prevented it from going off and killing everyone – Chas V’Shalom. Please explain why it continued on its course if there might have been a bomb aboard!! That’s pretty scary!
