SECURITY/DEFENSE:
*The IDF on Wednesday morning detonated two bombs discovered between Karni and Nachal Oz in Gaza. No injuries were reported.
*An Arab who tried to stab a soldier at Chawarah Checkpoint was apprehended. The soldier was uninjured.
*Three Arab-driven vehicles tried to run over soldiers at the Sinjel Checkpoint south of Shilo in Shomron. Baruch Hashem, soldiers escaped injuries. Four suspects were taken into custody following a pursuit.
POLITICS, DOMESTIC & MORE:
*The IDF is extending its ‘no questions asked’ return equipment campaign until October 7th, permitting people to return military property without facing any consequences for taking it.
*Speaking at a memorial service in the Negev, Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai stated Hamas is working to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.
*PM Olmert is scheduled to be questioned by police once again on Thursday after Rosh Hashanah.
*Both premier-designate Tzipi Livni and Labor Party leader Ehud Barak called their Wednesday meeting a good and productive event.
*Daylight savings time in Israel comes to an end on motzei Shabbos (4 Oct.) to Sunday (5 Oct) 6 Tishrei, at 2:00AM, at which times clocks are moved back an hour.
*Shas leader Eli Yishai announced a number of attorney’s have been selected to represent the party in coalition talks. He explained the team will take a firm position on the future of Jerusalem as well as monthly child allowance payments.
*In a Tuesday night meeting between President Shimon Peres and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, Mr. Peres reiterated Israel’s willingness to make painful concessions towards a peace accord with Syria but Israel will not be as forthcoming in return for “missile fire”.
