It appears that in response to numerous warnings by Israel’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau, the number of Israelis planning to visit Sinai resorts during Tishrei is down significantly.
The organization representing the nation’s travel agents reports that following the publication of the travel warnings and advisories, in addition to calls for Israelis in Sinai to return home, they stopped promoting Sinai as an option for the Yomim Tovim.
The organization stated that usually, some 50,000 Israelis visit Sinai in Tishrei and during a regular tourism year, some 300,000 Israelis will visit Egypt. This year, most of the visitors are predicted to be teens and young adults who generally bypass travel agents and make their own arrangements directly with the Sinai resorts. They cannot say for certain just how many will travel to Sinai since they did not make reservations with them.
Travel agents also point out that there are still Israelis who travel to Cairo for business, but the main focus of the terror warning was for the Sinai area.
