IDF Soldiers Dies of Infection Resulting from Tongue Piercing

In a sad chain of events, a 19-year-old IDF soldier from northern Israel died early Sunday morning from the systemic collapse of his vital organs, resulting from a major infection that was caused by a tongue piercing.

The unfortunate story began about two months ago, with the piercing, which landed the soldier in Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center with a major cranial infection. After his condition stabilized, he was transferred to a rehabilitation facility. He was prescribed anti-seizure medication, a result of the cranial infection.

It is believed that one of the drugs used to control his seizures led to a breakdown in his hepatic function, leading to a critical situation and his transfer back to Rambam, where he died early Sunday morning.
