The cabinet on Sunday approved a request from Defense Minister Ehud Barak, eliminating a planned cut in the Defense Ministry’s budget, which was approved about a month ago.
The cut was implemented in a number of government ministries to release funds to make compensatory payments to Holocaust survivors, in an expeditious fashion, as per the committee headed by retired Supreme Court justice, Dalia Dorner.
Dorner had harsh words for the state’s treatment of survivors during the past decades, recommending that as much as possible be done as quickly as possible to relieve the pain and suffering of the elderly population of survivors.
