United Torah Judaism has turned down a request to meet with President Shimon Peres, who had hoped to meet with representatives of all parties prior to leaving for NYC where he will be attending the United Nations General Assembly.
MK Rabbi Avraham Ravitz stated he cannot meet with the president prior to speaking with the party’s Council of Torah Sages, explaining the gedolei yisrael must make decisions before discussions pertaining to forming a new coalition government.
Rabbi Ravitz stated that such a meeting is a serious affair, not something that one enters into hastily. His inability to accommodate Mr. Peres may throw a wrench in the president’s plan to complete party interviews before departing for North America.
