Iran On The Border? Security Officials Warn Of Situation In Southern Syria

Amid the growing tensions along the northern border, IDF forces are currently conducting extensive security operations in southern Syria, aiming to prevent the establishment of hostile Iranian elements.

As part of the operation, the Air Force has carried out several strategic airstrikes, while ground troops and armored units have conducted ground raids to locate weapons and suspicious structures.

According to a Walla report, a senior security official claims that the current goal is to ensure that “no threat develops and reaches a stage where it endangers Israel’s security. We are acting to maintain our operational freedom and prevent hostile Iranian organizations from exploiting the chaos in the region for their benefit.”

In the past week, IDF forces raided a structure in the heart of a Syrian village, where weapons and military equipment were found. The property owner was arrested and transferred for questioning.

It was also reported that in recent months, several Syrian civilians who acted in service of hostile elements to Israel have been arrested. Some were released after questioning and warning, while others were transferred for further security processing.

According to the policy of Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, Israel views southern Syria as a “full security zone,” where it is necessary to operate with full operational freedom to protect the Israeli homefront – not at the Israeli border but deep within Syrian territory before threats establish themselves or attempt to attack.

“We don’t wait for threats to approach the border – we address them while they are still in the stages of organization,” a senior official clarified.

“There are various hostile entities currently engaged in rehabilitation, trying to examine the territory and Israeli determination,” he said. “We have no intention of relinquishing security over the area in light of the lessons from October 7.”
