20:00 IL: Prime Minister Ehud Olmert a short time ago submitted his resignation to President Shimon Peres.

As a result, Mr. Peres will begin meeting with the heads of the various Knesset parties, but most agree he is likely to place the task of assembling a coalition government in the hands of Olmert’s successor, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who last week was elected as the new Kadima Party leader.
