Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday called on his colleagues in the weekly cabinet meeting to cancel a planned cut in defense spending, a move that was decided upon by the treasury to free up funds to make payments to Holocaust survivors as per the recommendations of the Dorner Commission.
Barak has explained that the Iranian and other threats make such a move contraindicated, adding that in accordance with a government decision, the Defense Ministry’s budget is to be based on a multi-year spending plan.
