Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official, has voiced regret over the group’s decision to launch the October 7 attack on Israel, highlighting the immense destruction it unleashed on Gaza. His striking comments, delivered in an interview with The New York Times, reveal a rare moment of introspection from a key figure within the militant organization amid the escalating conflict.
Speaking to The New York Times, Mousa Abu Marzouk said, “If I had known ahead of time about all the destruction that would follow the attack, the scope of the catastrophe that would befall us, believe me, I wouldn’t have supported it.” The admission points to the devastating impact of Israel’s military response, which has left Gaza in ruins, claiming numerous lives and intensifying an already dire humanitarian situation.
The October 7 operation triggered a fierce Israeli counteroffensive that demolished entire neighborhoods and uprooted countless families. Hamas has traditionally justified such actions as resistance against Israeli policies, but Mousa Abu Marzouk’s remarks suggest a reassessment of the toll on Palestinians. He further told The New York Times, “We didn’t expect this scale of disaster,” underscoring the unanticipated severity of the fallout.
He also tells the Times that Hamas is ready to consider proposals for disarmament: “We are ready to speak about every issue. Any issue that is put on the table, we need to speak about it.”
As the Qatar-based head of Hamas’s foreign relations office, Mousa Abu Marzouk holds a prominent role within the group. His public reflection has yet to draw an official response from Hamas, leaving analysts to ponder whether it reflects a broader sentiment or an individual viewpoint within the leadership during this protracted war.

Way too little, way too late. Sorry, but apologies after mass murder, barbaric savagery, torture, and celebrating all that are null and void. This is the typical evil creature, that never has remorse over their wicked behavior, but feels bad about the negative consequences. The only consequences that ever had any impact on these chayos was wiping them out. That’s what should have been the response to the intifadas, and that’s how Israel should have approached the rockets, missiles, and drones. But the Biden terrorists held Israel back. Stop the crocodile tears.
So it’s not that he regrets pillaging murdering raping innocent Israelis. He just regrets that Israel wouldn’t tolerate it and hit them back hard..
This is not new after October 7th. Hamas has ALWAYS talked out of both side of it’s mouth this way. The “political” wing ALWAYS claims to not know or not approve of what the “military” wing is doing. Of course Hamas is going to try to sound reasonable and moderate when talking to their sympathizers who write and read the New York Times. Bad as the the New York Times not all their readers will be willing pour money into Gaza for endless conflict. But when Hamas leaders say they really don’t want such conflicts and devastation the money and sympathy starts to flow again.
WRONG HEADLINE!
He does not regret October 7 attack, he regrets the price he paid for it!!!
He wanted them like as he does now to kill every Jew alive r”l
Big difference!!!!
Marzouk’s only regret is that he didn’t anticipate the enraged reaction of all Israelis and the scale of the destruction of Gaza– not that he regrets the murder, rape, and mutilation of Israelis! It seems that he would happily do it again and again if Israel wouldn’t retaliate! “a rare moment of introspection”??? Please! What a misread of intentions here! He’s just as vile and disgusting as he was before these feigned statements of remorse!
Maybe it’s his own personal thought. And maybe it’s just what he wants the NYT to hear.
Yeh. Never Expected Such Extreme Response. You expected the Israelis to get down on their knees and BEG of you not to do it again… Yeh
Poor guy. He didn’t think that Israel would retaliate, huh? And Heaven forfend that he should regret Oct 7th because it was brutal and barbaric and caused massive death, destruction and chaos. Arab savages. Maybe next time they should be selfish and think of the awful consequences for them and their “innocent” landsleit if they attack Israel.
How could they “not have known” what would be Israel’s response?
Too little too late.

First of all, you can’t trust a word out of a Hamas member. They’re always looking to protect their aid dollars.
But even if this is true, it says a lot more about Israel than about Hamas. That they really believed that Israel would respond to a horrific attack like 10/7 with anything less than they did, really shows what a low level of deterrence Israel had.
Read his words carefully. There is no introspection, no “reflection.” He has no regrets for the slaughter, burning, and rape of Jews. He merely failed to anticipate the severity of the response. May he perish with his people.
Boohoo, cry me a river.
Oh wait…
