State Comptroller Justice Micha Lindenstrauss has announced the old Haifa Courthouse that has been abandoned for the past years will be renovated and it will serve as the northern branch for some 70 employees of his office.
In 2003, the city’s district court moved into a city complex, and the historic building has been vacant since, becoming a haven for the homeless and drug abusers.
Responding to the call to save the building, the former Supreme Court justice reflected fondly on his days as a junior justice serving in the building, eventually becoming the court president, and then moving to the nation’s highest court.
Justice Lindenstrauss explains the structure is well-suited to replace the “rickety offices” currently used by the northern district staff members of the state comptroller’s office, and it will also ensure the future of the historic landmark.
